    Commonly Known As:

  • Zanzibar gem,
  • Zuzu Plant,
  • Aroid Palm,
  • Eternity Plant,
  • Emerald palm

Zamioculcas zamiifolia, also known as Zanzibar Gem or more commonly as ZZ, is an aroid plant native to the forests and grasslands of eastern Africa. The ZZ plant is unique in that it can be propagated from a single leaf, though the most common method is to divide its rhizomes as it grows. The ZZ plant has a unique, bulbous root system that acts as a water reserve and aids in drought tolerance. Glossy compound leaves grow out from the rhizomes. New growth emerges as a bright light green before turning a deep shade of emerald.

  • light

While they do best with bright indirect light, ZZ plants are adaptable and tolerate partial shade and low light conditions. Great for any room in your house or office.

  • water

ZZ houseplants are happiest in a well-draining soil. Water your ZZ when the soil is dry as they store water in their rhizomes and, therefore, are drought-tolerant.

  • temperature

ZZ plants prefer temperatures between 60⁰F to 75⁰F degrees. Do not expose to temperatures below 45⁰F.

  • fertilizer

Fertilize your ZZ plant once every six months or so with a general-purpose fertilizer labeled for use on houseplants.
